In our effort to pursue a sustainable festival design it is of utmost importance for Communikey to maintain a commitment to ecologically sound and low-impact practices, from our commissary to each individual venue.

These efforts include:
ZERO WASTE
Communikey has implemented a Zero Waste program that will allow the festival to separate landfill trash, recycling, and biodegradable (compostable) materials in each venue including the festival commissary. We will aid venues in using compostable/biodegradable and recycled products in the bars, bathrooms, and food service areas of the festival and will encourage the use of reusable items whenever possible.

Music festivals in the US alone generate hundreds of tons of waste that is sent to landfills each year. Zero Waste programs reduce stress on our natural environment, divert materials from landfills, and encourage reuse, recycling, and composting of materials whenever possible. Look for Zero Waste stations provided by Waste-Not Recycling at all of our events.
TRANSPORTATION
Communikey is facilitating alternative forms of transportation through a festival design that ensures each participant can easily walk or bike to each event, offering pedestrian and bicycle maps to festival goers, and a bike-share program for artists. See the tourism section of our website for more information about alternative transportation in Boulder.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
A Biodiesel generator is used to power our free outdoor events. Biodiesel, although not perfect, reduces net COČ emissions by 78 percent compared to petroleum diesel making it a great stepping stone toward a low impact power source for our festival.
COMMISSARY
To support the health and vitality of our artists and volunteers Communikey runs a commissary for all 3 days of the festival providing lunch and dinner to all volunteers and artists.
